Julie Luxton
Julie is based in the Bay of Plenty. She works in the following areas:
improving achievement for Pasifika and English language learners
enhancing language and literacy skills
culturally and linguistically responsive pedagogy
effective formative and summative assessment practices
teaching as inquiry.
Julie is an experienced consultant who has worked as a PLD facilitator in English Language (ESOL), secondary literacy, Te Kotahitanga and NCEA English. She is passionate about supporting teachers within and across NZ Curriculum learning areas to meet the language, literacy and learning needs of our increasingly diverse student population.
Julie has a background in secondary education (Years 7-13) as a teacher and middle leader in English, English Language (ESOL), social studies and languages. She has a deep understanding of effective pedagogy and of analysing data to inform teaching and learning. She also has extensive experience in formative and summative assessment in the NCEA context and is currently the NZQA National Moderator for English Language.
Julie has a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics.
A self-confessed couch kumara, in her spare time Julie enjoys reading, gardening and a modicum of walking.
