Understand, Know, Do – Te Mātaiaho and supporting English language learners

Te Mātaiaho and the English Language Learning Progressions – a weaving of the threads’.

This workshop will discuss the challenges and opportunities of Te Mātaiaho for English language learners in Years 1-8, with a focus on the English learning area. It will unpack the English purpose statement and Understand, Know, Do elements through the lens of English language learning. It will explore relationships between the English Language Learning Progressions and the progress steps and outcomes of the refreshed English curriculum. It will also consider approaches and strategies for teachers to effectively support English language learners in their classes using the Common Practice Model.

During the course

You will learn with and from others in this interactive workshop. The workshop will focus on building your key understanding and give you loads of practical support that you can start to implement with the students you support.  Communication is critical for learning. Many of the students you support speak languages other than English and often require additional support from you so that they can progress in their learning and celebrate success.
