Behind the scenes of quality PLD: how we ensure every consultant delivers

Learn how our structured literacy approaches PLD ensures consistency, quality, and expert support to help your school lift literacy outcomes.

When you're choosing a structured literacy approaches PLD provider, consistency matters. So does deep expertise. And so does knowing that whoever walks into your school has the backing of a whole organisation committed to lifting outcomes for ākonga.

At Evaluation Associates | Te Huinga Kākākura Mātauranga, we don’t leave that to chance.

We’ve built strong internal systems to ensure every professional learning and development (PLD) programme we offer is consistent, research-informed, and high quality — no matter which consultant you work with, and no matter where your school is on the journey. In this post, we want to open the door on what that actually looks like in practice — because our inner workings are designed to support yours.

A recent hui in Tāmaki Makaurau brought together our structured literacy approaches team. This wasn’t just a chance to connect — it was part of our deliberate, organisation-wide approach to quality assurance. At the heart of every PLD programme is a lead team who designs the approach and content.

For structured literacy approaches PLD, this includes our lead team working in partnership with Dr Jane Carroll, whose expertise ensures our work is grounded in current evidence and responsive to what’s needed in New Zealand classrooms.

Dr Jane Carroll

Our internal hui gave consultants the opportunity to engage with the programme design in depth, align on key messages, and make clear connections to the wider services we offer across assessment, leadership, and curriculum.

We also invest heavily in the professional development and accreditation of our team. Every consultant delivering structured literacy approaches PLD completes intensive, ongoing learning — often supported directly by our lead team and our expert partner, Dr Jane Carroll. All members of the team have completed the International Dyslexia Association accredited Cox Campus Structured Literacy qualification, an internationally recognised programme grounded in the science of reading.

Why does this matter for your school? Because it means our consultants bring not just experience, but current, research-aligned knowledge into your classrooms. You can be confident that the advice, strategies, and support they offer reflect the most up-to-date understanding of how tamariki learn to read, write and communicate -  and how to address barriers to progress.

With a strong project management team in the mix, we also ensure our systems and processes are easy to navigate — reducing cognitive load for educators and making it simple to access support when it’s needed.

Importantly, we build in feedback loops at every level. Our internal communities of practice allow consultants to raise challenges and share successes. We act on feedback from kaiako and leaders, making targeted adaptations to ensure our support remains relevant and effective.

Get in touch to discuss your needs and explore the support that’s right for you.  Let’s work together to build capability, confidence, and impact — tailored to the needs of your kura or school.
